How to track QR code scans
You can only track a dynamic code, because only a dynamic code passes through a server when it is scanned. Here is how to set it up and what to look at.
Set up tracking
Static codes cannot be tracked by any tool. Make the code dynamic from the start.
- 1Create a free account and make a dynamic code for your link.
- 2Optionally add UTM tags, so your web analytics also credits the visit to the printed piece.
- 3Print it, then open Analytics to see scans as they come in.
What to look at
Scans over time show when a mailing, an event or a poster actually worked. Countries and cities show where the code travelled. Devices tell you whether your audience uses iPhone or Android. Unique visitors, counted once a day, tell you how many people you reached rather than how many times they scanned.
Comparing placements
Give each placement its own code, for example one per poster location or one per flyer design, and compare up to four codes side by side. For a single code in many places, use different UTM content values on the destination link instead.
You can share a read-only statistics page with a client, or export every scan as CSV.
