Dynamic QR codes you can change after printing
The code holds a short link. You change where it goes, as often as you like, without reprinting.
What you get
Change the destination
Point a printed code at a new page, menu or file in seconds. The pattern on paper never changes.
Count every scan
Scans by day, country, city, device, browser and language, with unique visitors and an hourly heatmap.
Pause, schedule, protect
Turn a code off, give it a start and end date or a scan limit, or ask for a password before it opens.
Every content type
Links, Wi-Fi, vCards, PDFs, menus, galleries, forms and 60 more, all editable.
Never held hostage
Codes keep working if you hit a limit or cancel. Free accounts get 3 editable codes.
Change history
Every edit is logged, so you can see who pointed a code where and when.
How it works
- 1
Create a free account and pick a content type.
- 2
Design the code and download it for print.
- 3
Change the destination or read the stats from your dashboard at any time.
What a dynamic QR code is
A dynamic QR code does not hold your final link. It holds a short link such as q.qrglo.com/ab3cd, and that short link forwards each scan to whatever destination you have set today. Because the printed pattern only ever contains the short link, you can change the destination as often as you like and the code on paper keeps working.
A static code is the opposite: the link, Wi-Fi password or contact card is written into the pattern itself. Static codes are free and never depend on any website, but a typo or a moved page means reprinting.
When to choose a dynamic code over a static one
Pick a dynamic code whenever the code will be printed in quantity or will stay in place for a long time: menus, packaging, posters, business cards, signs, product manuals and trade-show stands. Prices change, menus change, campaigns end and websites get rebuilt. With a dynamic code each of those is an edit in the dashboard instead of a reprint.
Dynamic codes are also the only way to measure a printed piece. Every scan passes through the short link, so you can see how many people scanned, when and from where, and compare one poster or flyer with another.
A static code is still the right choice for things that never change and must work without any service, such as a Wi-Fi code on your own router or a plain text label.
Free dynamic QR codes that do not expire
Many generators give dynamic codes only during a trial, and the printed codes stop working when the trial ends. Here a free account includes 3 editable codes with scan statistics, with no time limit. If you later cancel Pro, your codes keep redirecting; codes beyond the free three become read-only, not dead.
Pro removes the limit on editable codes and adds custom short paths, your own domain, team workspaces and the API.
Tips for printing a dynamic code
Keep at least 2 cm of code width for close reading, and about one tenth of the scanning distance for posters: a code read from 2 metres should be about 20 cm wide. Leave the quiet margin around the code free of text and pictures, and keep dark modules on a light background.
Scan the final file with two different phones before sending it to print. After printing, test the code once more and only then change the destination to the live page.
Dynamic QR codes questions
A static code holds the content itself and can never change. A dynamic code holds a short link to us, so you can change the destination and count scans.
No. Codes keep redirecting forever. Without Pro, codes beyond the free three become read-only, not dead.
The redirect runs on Cloudflare’s network close to the person scanning and usually adds well under a tenth of a second.
Yes. A code that opens a link can later open a PDF, a menu or a Wi-Fi page. The printed pattern stays the same.
Yes. The phone has to open the short link. Static codes for Wi-Fi, text or contacts work offline.
Every edit is kept in the change history on the code page, with the time and the person who made it.
